Grimsby v Guisley - 4th Qualifying Round

Saturday 25th October

Winner gets £12,500

Att 1,761

Straightforward to get to. Strange thing is, the ground is not in Grimsby, it is in Cleethorpes 2 miles up the road! Arrived 45 minutes before kick-off. There’s a first.

Getting serious now. Have to purchase a ticket in the ticket shop then take it round to the turnstile. “Funny way of doing things round these parts” I joked. “Always been done that way here lad” he replied sternly. Lad!? I’m bloody 69.

Decided a ticket in the seats behind the goal with the home supporters was the order of the day. Went to the snack bar and guess what…..  yes.  Pucka pies. But that was it. NO CHIPS. So cup of tea and pucka pie and to the game.

The first half proved uneventful. Not many real assaults on goal. The second half started the same as the first but it was the home side that scored first through substitute Nathan Arnold. After that Grimsby pushed on and scored two further goals from centre forward John-Lewis. John-Lewis is a big strong old fashioned centre forward and I thought looked useful and a handful.

What I found fascinating was that there was over 30 Stewards, which works out at 1 Steward for every 58 spectators. Strange. There we go.

Good game. Could do with a kinder draw on Monday evening.  Sod it. Back here at home to Oxford United.
